DeleteTo shed light on OM 312 buses C.T.B perched 165 buses from Germany in 1957 for 3 million Rupees. (source UK). The all metal body done by Voll (pronounce foll) in Germany. They were the top of the range @ that time. in Ceylon.(SL) The curved front & back was the norm then for nice look & reduce wind pressure at front for spreed & better fuel consumption (less drag). The engine was OM 312, 6 Cylinder Indirection Diesel meaning ,engine had to be Preheat before starting. Max power was around 120 ps (German horsepower) @ 3000 R.P.M. Torque not known. ZF 4speed gearbox had 3 speed synchronized. no power steering but ZF recirculating ball type steering was the best @ that time. The ivory colored steering wheel had a chromed center ring for horn & indicators. Compressed- air assisted drum breaks front & back. The front passenger side door was air operated by the driver, the back one done by hand. All electrics by Bosch, mechanical voltage regulator & dc dynamo for battery charging. Instrument panel had speedometer, water temperature, oil pressure, air pressure & amp meter all by VDO. leaf spring suspension with dampers for front & back live axles. Original inside colors were really good. Lucky I used to go to school by those fantastic buses. Any renaming buses now 57 years old, One bus must be in the museum for future generation. Next time when I visit Sri-Lanka I try to see them. cheers.
