Sri Lanka Central Transport Board (SLCTB) Rathmalana depot, SLCTB Ekala Workshop bodied British Leyland Clysedale bus (29ශ්‍රී5854) in-front of the depot premises. This photo was taken on 1981. Pic by:Geoff Bruse. -- ශ්‍රී ලංකා මධ්‍යම ගමනාගමන මණ්ඩලයේ (ශ්‍රී ලං.ම.ග.ම.) රත්මලාන ඩිපෝවට අයත්ව තිබූ Leyland Clysedale වර්ගයේ බස් රථයක් 1981 වසරේ ඩිපෝව ඉදිරිපිටදී. මෙම බස් රථ වලද තට්ටුව බ්‍රිතාන්‍යයෙන් ආනයනය කර, බඳ ලං.ම.ග.ම. මගින් ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ නිපදවා තිබේ. ලංගම රථ ඇණිය සතුව පැවති දිගින් වැඩිම බස් රථයක් වන මෙහි මැදින් දොරක් පිහිටා තිබීමද විශේෂත්වයකි. මෙවැනි වටිනා පින්තුරයක් අන් අයගේ දැකගැනීම පිණිස flickr අඩවියේ පළ කල කර්තෘට (Geoff Bruse) විශේෂ ස්තූතියක් හිමි විය යුතුමය.

10 of thses Leyland Clysedale VK55 buses joined Ratmalana Depot in 1981
ReplyDeleteClysdale is originally an Albion designed whom merged with British Leyland
This is also know as viking (VK55)but called Clysedale to avoid confusion with Ashok Leyland Viking
The 10 buses were 29 Sri 5808 , 5834,5835,5836,5837 with the door at rear overhang and the balance 5 units 29 Sri 5854 5857 5860 5861 5862 with the door at the middle similar to Leyland/albion vikings in Singapore I used to go to school in 5837 which survived at RL depot till 2004 (RL20)
5834 was decorated bus with Clock Cassette radio and dual tone Air horn driven by De Mel who was a proud driver Bus was called Asiri
5836 & 5862 was slighly decorated
5836 used to operate upto Aluthgama & galle thought their running was restricted between Fort & Moratuwa which stated on the dash board
With these 10 buses 25 Leyland Boxers joined Maharagama Depot They all had numbers in 29 Sri 4000 & 5000 series But they did not last long

ReplyDeleteThe first driver of this bus was called (චූටි අයියා )late Mr Vithanage of Karagampitiya Dehiwala as we were good friends he had shown me some photographs of the bus with him.... There is a good story behind this bus as he said... He told me that he found his girl friend now his wife was a daily commuter in this bus that was running a special office trip from Mt; Lavinia to Katunayaka those days....
