New Foton BJ6129C buses for the Lanka Metro Transit

A new urban bus service was launched today under the Lanka Metro Transit (LMT) Company. As part of this initiative, 10 Foton BJ6129C model city buses received under the Clean Sri Lanka project were deployed for operation today as a pilot project. These buses, specially designed for urban transport, are equipped with essential features expected in a modern public transportation system. These include low-floor access, facilities to accommodate wheelchairs for passengers with disabilities, and automated fare payment systems. -- අද දින ලංකා මෙට්‍රෝ ට්‍රාන්සිට් (LMT) සමාගම යටතේ නවතම නාගරික බස් රථ සේවාවක් ආරම්භ කරන ලදී. ඒ යටතේ LMT වෙත Clean Sri Lanka ව්‍යාපෘතිය යටතේ ලැබුණු ෆෝටන් BJ6129C වර්ගයේ නාගරික සේවා බස් රථ 10ක් අද දින නියමු ව්‍යාපෘතියක් ලෙස ධාවනයට එක් කරන ලදී. නාගරික සේවා වෙනුවෙන් විශේෂයෙන් සැකසුනු මෙම බස් රථ පහත් පිවිසුම් හැකියාව, ආබාධිත පුරවැසියන්ගේ රෝද පුටු ඇතුළු කිරීමේ හැකියාව, ස්වයංක්‍රීය මුදල් ගෙවීමේ හැකියාව ඇතුළු සම්මත පොදු ප්‍රවාහන පද්ධතියක පැවතිය යුතු පහසුකම් වලින් සමන්විතය.

The low-floor design of these buses allows easy boarding for wheelchair users, visually impaired passengers, and pregnant women. Each bus is equipped with 34 passenger seats, along with designated spaces for passengers using wheelchairs. The pilot project is currently operating on the routes from Makumbura to Colombo Fort and from Makumbura to Kadawatha. These routes cover major healthcare institutions such as the National Hospital of Colombo and Maharagama Apeksha Hospital, ensuring better accessibility for patients and visitors. Passengers can pay fares using bank cards or via QR code through the LMT-GO mobile application. The app also provides real-time information such as bus schedules and live bus locations, enhancing convenience for commuters. -- රෝද පුටු භාවිත කරන මගීන්ට සහ දෘෂ්‍යාබාධිත මගීන්ට සේම ගැබිණි මව්වරුන්ට ද ඉතා පහසුවෙන් බස් රථයට ගොඩවිය හැකි ලෙස විශේෂයෙන් නිර්මාණය කර ඇති මෙම පහත් පිවිසුම් සහිත නාගරික සේවා බස් රථ 10 ක් මේ යටතේ ප්‍රවාහන සේවාවට එක්කෙරිණ. මගී ආසන 34 කින් සමන්විත මෙම බස් රථවල රෝද පුටුවලින් ගොඩවන මගීන්ට වෙනමම ස්ථාන වෙන් කර ඇත. මාකුඹුර සිට කොළඹ කොටුව දක්වාත් මාකුඹුර සිට කඩවත දක්වාත් මාර්ගයන්හි නියමු ව්‍යාපෘතිය ක්‍රියාත්මක අතර, විශේෂයෙන් කොළඹ ජාතික රෝහල සහ මහරගම අපේක්ෂා රෝහල ඇතුළු ප්‍රධාන සෞඛ්‍ය සේවා මධ්‍යස්ථාන දැනට මෙම මාර්ග මගින් ආවරණය කෙරේ. බැංකු කාඩ්පත් මගින් සහ LMT-GO ජංගම දුරකථන යෙදුම හරහා QR මගින් මෙම බස් රථ සේවාවන් සඳහා ගාස්තු ගෙවීමේ පහසුකම පවතින අතර  LMT-GO ජංගම දුරකථන යෙදුම මගින් බස් රථ පිටත්වන වේලාවන් දැන ගැනීම සහ බස් රථ දැනට පවතින ස්ථාන හඳුනා ගැනීම ආදියට පහසුකම් පවතී.

This urban bus service, introduced under Lanka Metro Transit operating under the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB), is expected to expand further with the addition of more buses and extended route networks in the future. Lanka Metro Transit (Pvt) Ltd, commonly known as LMT, is a state-affiliated transport company established to develop and operate a modern urban bus network. Formed as a subsidiary under the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB), the company was created to introduce a high-quality “Metro Bus” service as an alternative to private vehicle use, particularly to help reduce traffic congestion within the Colombo Metropolitan Region. According to an official project memorandum published on the company’s website, the ownership structure of LMT consists of 60% held by the Sri Lanka Transport Board and 40% held by the General Treasury of the Government of Sri Lanka. It is believed that this initiative will bring a modern transformation to Sri Lanka’s currently outdated public transport system.
